The sewers chugged another rain,
My legs were feeling kinda faint
I had been drunk before
And would forever be
I sat down on the fresh damp lawn,
I closed my eyes and thought of home
I had been broke before
And would forever be
A guard close by let out a yell,
Called me a bum, called me a gyp
I then produced my knife
And introduced the two of them
I got the sucker on the ground
And taught him how to spell my name
I carved it on his forehead
Lest he would forget
I said, ay, ay, ay, oh no
Don’t bury me in this ground love
I said ay, ay, ay, oh no
Put on my hat and take me home
The beggars by the opera house
Sat down like kings and queens of old
I gave my shirt to one of them
And got wine in return
I jumped over my shadow and
I almost nearly fell
They cheered and clapped and
In the morning we all bade farewell
Jumping on the morning train
I thought I heard a banshee scream
Just like waking up from a bad dream
Drunk on a volcano’s edge,
Where faces turn all cold and mean
Putting off the fire with gasoline
I said, ay, ay, ay , oh no
Don’t bury me in this ground love
I said ay, ay, ay, oh no
Put on my hat and take me home
Goodbye my darling, I must go,
The place I’m going no one knows

The sewers chugged another rain,

My legs were feeling kinda faint

I had been drunk before

And would forever be

I sat down on the fresh damp lawn,

I closed my eyes and thought of home

I had been broke before

And would forever be

A guard close by let out a yell,

Called me a bum, called me a gyp

I then produced my knife

And introduced the two of them

I got the sucker on the ground

And taught him how to spell my name

I carved it on his forehead

Lest he would forget

I said, ay, ay, ay, oh no

Don’t bury me in this ground love

I said ay, ay, ay, oh no

Put on my hat and take me home

The beggars by the opera house

Sat down like kings and queens of old

I gave my shirt to one of them

And got wine in return

I jumped over my shadow and

I almost nearly fell

They cheered and clapped and

In the morning we all bade farewell

Jumping on the morning train

I thought I heard a banshee scream

Just like waking up from a bad dream

Drunk on a volcano’s edge,
